Traditional Forms Of Marketing Are Going Down The Drain

April 6th, 2010 by Roxanne Rives

So you have a really great product but no one knows about it yet right?

Maybe it’s the small clothing store you own and operate every day where your blood, sweat, tears and dreams are quickly going down the drain because your stuff is great but no one can find you because your location is lousy.

Whatever the case, most of you may not realize how very important social media is to your business or product. After all, when was the last time you picked up a yellow pages to look up a product or saw an ad on TV and was like “By golly, I need to go out and visit that business.”

Traditional forms of marketing are quickly going down the drain..and fast.
I chuckle every time I see the struggle of the newspaper industry selling copies at the redlights in morning traffic. Or how the radio stations can offer super boosted packages with “bonus” spots to your company if you buy a large package.

Come on folks, time to wake up and smell social media!!

People in their cars don’t listen to radio ads, they absorb some of the information and quickly forget the rest by the guy cutting them off in traffic, the kids screaming at the top of their lungs in the backseat or the famous Sun-Sentinel guy in a faded yellow vest trying desperately to sell them a copy of news that happened yesterday.

On the other hand, I guarantee that you are reading this at your desk, on your iPhone or some other sweet tech device or in the comfort of your home office while the kiddies are out playing ball in the yard.

Social media has our attention in ways that traditional media just can’t capture anymore. While the televison is still in our living rooms, the idea that our horse needs to be fed on FarmVille is also in the back of our minds.

So no matter what the agencies try to sell you on newspaper, radio, magazine and traditional media mediums of putting your product out there for the world to see..I bet you a nice Facebook Ad campaign will probably do the trick.

But shhhhh, I shouldn’t be telling you that now should I?
